Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides an in-depth analysis of how the political and religious atmosphere of 16th-century Italy impacted social customs in the region, especially focusing on the influence of Pope Clement VIII. Through descriptive prose, the author illustrates the splendor and opulence of papal celebrations, ceremonies, and city festivals, while also discussing the political motivations and symbolism behind many of these displays. The book sheds light on an under-researched area of Renaissance history, offering new insights into the complex relationship between religion, politics, and public spectacle during this time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Add to basketCondition: Fine. in-8 (mm 234x166), ff. 18 n.n., raffinata legatura moderna in mezza pelle e angoli, titolo e fregetti oro al dorso. "The descriptive text specifically mentions that the sequence of the decorations followed a carefully conceived design. The decorated city gate and the first triumphal arch were to indicate the city of Bologna's reverence for His Holiness; the subsequent ceremonial constructions were intended to glorify the Pope and his merits" (Bartsch, 40/1, p. 294).
