George Willard White (1903-1985) was Professor of Geology and Head of the Department of Geology of the University of Illinois from 1947 to 1965. He edited a series of volumes on "Contributions to the History of Geology," and this booklet is an offprint from the fifth volume in the series that contained James Hutton's System of the Earth, Theory of the Earth, and Observations on Granite, together with Playfair's Biography of Hutton. This offprint only contains George White's foreword and victor Eyles's introduction to the volume. The booklet is staple-bound in the original white card covers with 'James Hutton' written on the front cover. It is in very good condition with some shelf wear to the covers and slight curling to the top corner of the front cover. The contents are secure and clean with no inscription.…
