Importante monografia sul maestro dell'affiche Leon…etto Cappiello (Livorno 1875 - Cannes 1942), redatta da Jacques Viénot (fondatore dell'Institut Français du Design) poco dopo la morte del grande cartellonista italiano. Nato a Livorno nel 1875 e trasferitosi in Francia alla fine del XIX Secolo, Cappiello trovò dapprima il successo come caricaturista collaborando a Le rire, Le sourire, Le cri de Paris e altri periodici e pubblicando alcuni fortunati album; fin dal 1900 si dedicò alla realizzazione di manifesti per le maggiori stamperie francesi (Vercasson, Imprimeries réunies, Devambez), affermandosi rapidamente come uno dei più grandi artisti dell'epoca d'oro dell'affiche e firmando alcune tra le più celebri immagini pubblicitarie degli anni '20 e '30 per Campari, Cinzano, Thermogène, Dubonnet, Job, Nil, ecc. Il volume, tirato in 2975 copie, ripercorre la carriera artistica di Cappiello illustrando la produzione di caricature, manifesti, dipinti e disegni con riproduzioni in nero e a colori. Prefazione di Jean Cocteau, elenco dei personaggi ritratti in caricatura, cronologia artistica. Internamente ben conservato, sovraccoperta un po' sciupata e con mende al verso lungo i margini, bruniture sul dorso. Discreto esemplare nel complesso.

Il volume si apre con una celebre prefazione firmata da Jean Cocteau, in cui il grande scrittore e intellettuale francese instaura un parallelismo formale e stilistico tra l'arte di Cappiello e quella di un altro illustre protagonista della caricatura parigina, Sem (Georges Gourçat). Cocteau elogia l'acutezza grafica dei due autori, definendoli con straordinaria intensità lirica l'espressione più pura e aerea del loro tempo. Book.
