Nuits étoilées, voyages sur mer et fuite hors du temps, désirs amoureux, végétation paradisiaque et fantastique manifestent un univers imaginaire.Peintre autrichien, Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980) a été l?élève de Gustav Klimt. Très vite il s?éloigne de l?Art Nouveau: et suit une voie expressioniste. Il s?installe d?abord à Berlin ensuite à Dresde (1919-1924), après avoir été gravement blessé pendant la Première Guerre. Rentre à Vienne en 1933 qu?il quitte pour Prague oú il rencontre celle qui deviendra sa femme, Olda Palkowska. Son art considéré ?dégénéré? l?oblige à partir d?abord à Londres avant de se fixer définitivement à Villeneuve, en Suisse. La Fondation Kokoschka est accueillie au Musée Jenisch de Vevey.

Jahrhunderts, dessen Glas- und Wandgemälde in öffentlichen Gebäuden und Kirchen bekannt sind. Dagegen weiß man kaum etwas über seine tägliche Arbeit im Atelier. Hier entwickelte er ei…ne intimistische Malerei, die hauptsächlich Bildnisse von Mitgliedern seiner Familie umfasst. So porträtierte er seine Ehefrau Julie, seine acht Kinder und einige seiner Enkelkinder im Wandel der Zeit. Als einsamer Spaziergänger fand er auch in der Natur einen der Kontemplation und Meditation förderlichen Rückzugsort.In den ersten Jahrzehnten des 20. Jahrhunderts entwickelte Louis Rivier seinen eigenen Stil, der durch Einflüsse der italienischen Renaissance und der nordeuropäischen Malerei geprägt war. Sein Interesse für maltechnische Aspekte führte ich dazu, ein 'Sonderverfahren' zu erfinden. Die Präzision seines Strichs verleiht seinem Werk eine moderne fotografische Qualität. Er war jedoch nicht nur ein feiner Beobachter der Realität, sondern hob zudem das gemalte Bild auf eine idealisierte Ebene, die Figuren und Natur in 'verklärter Intimität' vereint.
