In 1900 Verney joined the Rifle Brigade, and was sent to South Africa where the Boer War was in progress. He wrote regularly to his parents, describing every detail of his daily life. This volume also includes Verney's letters from his service in Wrold War I.

Verney became ADC to Lord Chelmsford in India. During World War I, Verney served in France, where he had the good fortune to be wounded.

Condition: pages have minimal to no marking. In margins, the photos remain crisp and clean. The front facing end paper has a previous ink signature from previous owner, the cover remains vibrant the gilt title on spine is vibrant and intact. It has general to light shelf-ware. The dust cover has general shelf-ware with small markings and bumping to top of spine. Otherwise a good, clean and tight book.
