450 gr.…

Add to basket4pp. Disbound. Single bifolium, separated into two leaves. Lightly spotted. Short tear head of second leaf. A remarkably rare survival of an outline of the aims and regulations of the Universal Society of the Friends of the People, an organisation established on 11th April, 1792 by a group of opposition Whig politicians who feared that their party was being influenced too much by Edmund Burke's alarmed reaction to the French Revolution abroad and the rise of radicalism at home. The Society, wholly populated by aristocrats, aimed to encourage lower and middle-class demands for parliamentary reform. The text is similar to Holborn Society, of the Friends of the People; instituted 22d November, 1792, for the purpose of political investigation (London, 1792). ESTC records copies at only two locations in the British Isles (BL and NA), and one further location in North America (Brown). ESTC T50494. Size: 8vo.…
