21,5x15,5 cm, Leinen. Sehr gut erhaltenes Exemplar ohne Eintragungen. Bitte beachten: Lieferung nach Vorauszahlung. An Buchhandel, Antiquariate, Behörden, öffentliche Bibliotheken, Universitäten und Museen liefern wir auf Wunsch mit Rechnung. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 393.

Buon esemplare. Willems: 364. Book.

Second and Best Issue of the most complete edition of this detailed history of the author's homeland. The second part, consisting of three divisions, is devoted to a chorographical description of Friesland and an examination of its civil and religious constitution. The work had been previously published a number of times, beginning in 1596, but here the text is greatly expanded, handsomely printed in folio, and double-page maps and a plate have been added. The first issue did not contain the plates and the text did not include the critique, index, and other textual matter. The maps and plans by N.Geilkerkius include a map of the region and fine city plans for Leeuwerden, Franeker, Harlingen, Bolsward, Sneek, Worcum (half-page), Dockum, Staveren, Sloten (half-page), Groningen, and Emdan. The author was professor of history and Greek at the University of Groningen, of which he was also a rector.Berghman 1822. Brunet 25201. 3 parts in 2 volumes. First edition of this highly interesting and original work in three parts on the geography, history and form of government of the Greeks, which Ubbio Emmius (1547-1625) composed during the last years of his life, and which was published posthumously in Leiden in 1626 by the Elzevier brothers with a dedicatory introduction is by his son Wessel.Emmius devoted a large part of his life to writing the history of the Frisian territories. His Rerum Frisicarum historia - the first modern study of Friesland from North-Holland to Denmark - appeared in 6 volumes from 1592 until 1616.Binding of vol. 2 (containing part 3) slightly dust-soiled and half-loose (front hinge came loose from the book block). 2 volumes. First edition of the first twenty books (two decades) of a monumental history of Friesland. This landmark work is one of the first studies of the region to be based on primary sources rather than myths and legends. Combining Friesland's political, geographical, and institutional history, it remains a cornerstone of early modern historiography and a key source for the history of the northern Netherlands.Ubbo Emmius (1547-1625) was born in the German fishing village of Greetsiel, East Friesland, as the son of a Lutheran preacher. From the age of 9 to 18, he went to Latin school in Emden, Bremen, Norden, and Geneva, where he encountered Calvinist ideas. In 1579 he returned to East Friesland and was offered the position of rector of the Latin School in Norden. Despite making a great success of the school, he was dismissed in 1587 for his Calvinist convictions. He continued his career in Leer, rising to prominence as a scholar and educator, and became the first rector magnificus of the University of Groningen in 1614.Throughout his career, Emmius devoted himself to scholarship, producing this celebrated history of Friesland, originally issued in six decades of ten books each between 1596 and 1607. The present two volumes are the first editions of the first two decades. They are of particular significance as they establish the textual foundation of Emmius's main work and reflect the earliest stage of his systematic reconstruction of Frisian history. The bindings show only minor traces of use. The leaves are somewhat browned, the lower margin of pp.5-6 in volume 2 has been restored, with some loss of text, contemporary underlinings throughout. Otherwise in good condition.l Ad 1: Adams E 154; STCN 822743876; Typ. Bat. 1738; USTC 423655; Ad 2: Adams E 155; STCN 822743930; Typ. First edition. First edition. 191,[1] pp. plus a number of inserted blank interleaves; 56pp. plus several blank interleaves, two bearing contemporary manuscript notes continuing work to 1613. Numerous setting errors in the pagination, but sequence complete. 1 vols. 8vo. An attractive copy of this work on the history of the Frisian territories by German historian and geographer Ubbo Emmius (1547 - 1625). From East Frisia himself, Emmius wrote several works concerning the history of that coastal area, and a number of his titles appeared under the Elzevier's imprints in coming years. The first work is noted as the second book printed in Gronigen (the first being another work by Emmius printed in 1603) and one must assume the second work is also close in that sequence, particularly as it often appears bound with a number of the copies of the former title reported in OCLC. A rough and inadequate transcription of the ownership inscription on the rear pastedown suggests the original owner may have been "D.D. Doct. Daüide Robertüm"; a witty Latin couplet adorns the first blank along with two later ownership signatures. A beautiful book in a decorative contemporary binding, in near original condition. Nijhoff /Van Hattum 89. Willemse, 46 (supplement). OCLC 64181920 Contemporary calf, tooled in gilt, gilt gauffered edges. Initials "D.D.R." and date of "1607" stamped on both boards, within gilt frame with corner ornaments and a central oval with internal floral devices. Extremities and joints rubbed, front joint worn but sound, vestiges of absent ties at fore-edge, modern bookplate on front pastedown, a few side notes in the latter work slightly shaved at foremargin by binder, early ink ownership inscription on rear pastedown, ink note of acquisition/provenance on front free endsheet ("Lot 203. Sotheby's Gallery 1892 E.H. Laurence Library") 191,[1] pp. plus a number of inserted blank interleaves; 56pp. plus several blank interleaves, two bearing contemporary manuscript notes continuing work to 1613.
