Portret van Isaac Abraham Levy. Levy was afkomstig uit een eenvoudig joods gezin. Dank zij financiële steun van de joodse staatsraad in buitengewone dienst en administrateur van het Kroondomein L.W. van Mesritz kon hij de Franse school van G.A. Burnier te 's-Gravenhage, waarheen het gezin verhuisd was, bezoeken en op 3 september 1855 zich laten inschrijven in de letteren en rechten te Leiden. Levy gaf blijk van een grote sociale bewogenheid, die hij met de sociaal-democraten deelde, maar de weg en het doel die zij voor ogen hadden wees hij af. Zo kwam hij op voor kinderbescherming en voor verzorging van verwaarloosde kinderen, publiceerde hij over arbeidsraden, collectieve arbeidsregeling, vakverenigingen en werkloosheid. (1): 'Kloosterburen, 5 Nov. 1903' and a number 997. 'The 'Warven' and the Headmen's Chamber, or the former Provincial Court, within the city of Groningen, considered in connection with the Political History of this Region'. A Warf, plural Warven, was a meeting of judges where serious legal questions were decided. On p. 103-125 an extensive description of the De Mepsche affair from around 1731-1734, especially from a legal point of view. Tjalling Petrus Tresling (1809-1844) was a talented lawyer and expert on the history of Law.
