First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the photo-illustrated dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping to the corners, the upper board with a small glue mark to the centre, the cloth is otherwise bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's marks. Complete wih the very lightly rubbed dustwrapper that is without fading, loss or tears. Not price-clipped (£7.95 net to the lower front flap). Inscribed by the Roald Dahl in black ink on the front endpaper "To Lesley / Love / Roald / Dec. 1983". A collection of 14 ghost stories chosen by Roald Dahl out from the 749 supernatural tales he read at the British Museum whilst working to develop an American television programme that would feature dramatisations of some of the stories. A pilot written by Dahl based on E. F. Benson's 'The Hanging of Alfred Wadham' was filmed but never released due to concerns that it would offend the American Catholic Church.
