From the library of Albert W. Tillinghast, with his handwritten inventory card laid in. Tillinghast was a golf course architect andÂone of the most prolific architects…in the history of golf; he worked on more than 265 different courses. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015. A nice example with noted provenance. An early discussion of golf psychology, accompanied by stories of championship matches and champion players. Jerome D. Travers won the U.S. Amateur tile four times, and was the U.S. Open Champion, as an amateur, in 1915.

Travers was one of the leading amateur golfers of the early 1900s, winning the U.S. Amateur in 1907, 1908, 1912 and 1913. He also won the us Open in 1916, the New Jersey Amateur three times, and the Metropolitan Amateur (New Yor…k) five times. He was regarded as one of the finest match play golfers of his time and had a famous rivalry with Walter Travis. The two men are often confused due to that and the similarity of surnames. Photograph of the author on front cover surrounded by a border of alternating square mesh golf balls and Scottish thistles, all in gilt. FORMER PROPERTY OF MAX H. BEHR WITH HIS SIGNATURE ON UPPER FFEP. BEHR HAS MADE TWO CHANGES TO THE TEXT. On page 54 Travers recalls how he defeated Max Behr in the US Amateur finals at Garden City Golf Club by 8 and 7. Behr has changed the score to 7 and 6. On page 56, Behr has crossed out the name of Osward Kirby as winner of the New Jersey State Championship of 1912, and penciled in Max Behr of Morris County G. C. and signed it in ink below the change. Light wear to cover border of square mesh golf balls, lightly rubbed. Contents bright without foxing. Nice association piece. Covers protected in mylar. A member of the world g…olf hall of game, Travers was born into an affluent New York family and lived until 1951. Contains 48 illustrations and is combination of biography and instructional book. Books signed by Travers are among the rarest in the golfing library and one inscribed to President Harding, makes this an extra special copy. Harding was among the most avid golfers to occupy the Oval Office, playing two to three times a week. He established the Warren G.
