Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1951. First edition. xxiii, 98pp. In this volume are collected Marx's articles on China, contributed to the New York Tribune in the years 1853-60, now republished for the first time. The war described in these articles was the decisive event which o…pened up China to Western civilization, ending with the capture of Peking, the legalization of the opium traffic and the imposition of conditions which laid the foundations for later imperialism. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the bottom of the spine and the contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and the spine is browned. There is rubbing with some creasing and small pieces missing and small tears on the top edge. Up to about 1/4" is missing from around the top of the spine and front edge and a small piece is missing from the bottom front spine corner. Tears of about 1/2" on the bottom edges of the spine and on the front spine edge, together with some of the tears on the top edge, have been repaired on the reverse with document repair tape.
