Spine is faded and the main reason for the low condition grade is because there is a area missing in the cloth at the top of the spine, ot…herwise book would grade as VG. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no handwriting. Pages are lightly toned due to age but there is considerable foxing to the end pages and pastedowns as well as scattered foxing on some of the text pages (see image of title page). The top exterior page edge is also dust darkened.

Tod, in realtà, non vorrebbe andare giacché l'esperienza gli ha insegnato che la presenza di Poppy significa quasi sempre guai, ma alla fine è costretto a cedere alle insistenze della figlia. Già al suo arrivo Tod si trova di fronte a una situazione imbarazzante: tra gli ospiti c'è anche Sabrina, la sua ex fidanzata della quale è ancora innamorato. Quel che è peggio, la ragazza nel frattempo si è sposata con un uomo che dietro un'aria affabile e perbene nasconde alcuni segreti e, in passato, è stato sospettato di omicidio. Ma di personaggi curiosi nella splendida tenuta che lo ospita ce ne sono altri, come per esempio Louella, una bellissima ragazza dai modi disinvolti e spiazzanti. Vista l'aria che tira Tod decide di tornarsene al più presto in città, ma il suo proposito viene vanificato da un fatto del tutto imprevisto: un omicidio. Naturalmente gli indizi puntano in un'unica direzione, quella di Tod. Aveva l'opportunità, non ha un alibi per l'ora del delitto e, soprattutto, aveva il più antico movente del mondo.
