Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Reprint Edition. Self-Published by Author, Pawhuska, OK. c1955 on the fiberboards and dated 1955 on the title page. Hardcover/Fiberboard. This book has a recipe book between the fiberboards held in place by three white rings at the spine. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Fine. No DJ. Indian face painted on front fiberboard with title of Recipes. Rear fiberboard is blank. Inner book has brown card stock wraps with black lettering. It is saddle stapled with holes for ring binders. Non-paginated (46 pp by count) 8vo. This book contains authentic Indian recipes collected in 1955 for printing. They are a combination of game recipes and store bought items cooked and prepared as the Osage Indians had done for many years. I counted 75 recipes and there is also discussion about how to prepare wild game, including moose, bear, raccoon, elk and others. A very unique cookbook.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First edition? (See below.) Octavo. [48]pp. Stapled wrappers three-hole punched and bound into pictorial particle board with red plastic rings. Front cover a bit rubbed and unprinted lower board modestly stained, wrappers evenly toned, bright and very good or better. A collection of traditional recipes from the Osage Nation. The book is dedicated to the memory of Principal Osage Chief Fred Lookout and illustrated with a halftone portrait of him, as well as two portraits of young Frankie McClainpresumably the publisher's sonin traditional Osage dress. Coauthor Sylvester J. Tinker would later serve as Chief of the Osage tribe from 1970 to 1982. (N.B. *OCLC* has one entry with two holdings that gives a date of "c1948" and notes that, while it is the same height, contains "13 leaves"; we are unsure if this is a clerical error or an extremely uncommon first edition.).

Octavo, red stapled wrappers bound with three rings into pictorial wooden boards measuring 8.25 x 7.25", [56] pp. A cookbook of Osage recipes, written by an Osage leader and chief, together with his wife. Recipes include squaw bread, scrapple, wild onions and scrambled eggs, baked raccoon, preparing bear meat, and more. These are accompanied by an essay on the "Early Customs and Habits of American Indians," and three photographic illustrations of young Osage in traditional dress. Well represented institutionally, however this is still a very collectible title. Binding lacking upper ring, mild staining to boards, else very good.
