B&W illustrations throughout, full page as well as vignettes. A wonderful collection of short stories and poems for children. Timothy Shay Arthur (18091885) was a popular 19th-century American writer, famous for his temperance novel Ten Nights in a Bar-Room and What I Saw There (1854). Written with compassion and sensitivity, Arthur's stories articulated the values and ideals associated with "respectable middle class" life in America. Several publishing firms have printed books by Timothy Shay Arthur 's pseudonym "Uncle Herbert," but Lippincott was his publisher during his lifetime. Found no copies listed in OCLC or LC or AAS.
