Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Essentials Of Alternating Currents by Timbie & Higbie. Classic instruction representing the essentials a worker on alternating-current devises should know well. Developed through the experience of the authors in teaching short, intensive trade courses for electric wiremen. It is written in simple language and avoids use of algebra and trigonometry. The book covers modern systems of power transmission, transformers, impedance, power and power factor, current and voltage relations in series and parallel circuits, relation between impedance, resistance and reactance, polyphase circuits, calculation of wire sizes for various distributing systems, motors starters and controllers, converters and rectifiers. x + 377pp. The 2nd edition was copyrighted 1939. The revision was done by Professor Samuel H. Caldwell, of the Department of Electrical Engineering at M.I.T. The major need for revision came from the improved methods of starting and protecting alternating-current motors, expanded use of static condensers for power factor correction, the introduction of more efficient rectifying devices and the extensive development of the small capacitor motor applications during the 20 years after the 1st edition. Dr William Henry Timbie (1877-1959), was Professor of Electrical Engineering at MIT, co-leader of Industrial Cooperative program at MIT (1919-1947), author of several texts on electricity and electrical engineering, including Elements of Electricity and Principles of Electrical Engineering. Henry Harold Higbie?s (1882-1947) work in illumination established University of Michigan as a leader in the field. Hired in 1905, he was named President of the Illuminating Engineering Society in 1926-27, and he wrote the pioneering book, Lighting Calculations in 1934. No longer a focus of electrical engineering, Illuminating Engineering is concerned with both natural and man-made lighting in public and private buildings and homes. Hardcover has blue cloth boards with brown lettering & shadowboxes on spine and front, but no DJ. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked. Book is in remarkably fine condition, but has a impact mark on front cover from storage. Copyrights 1919, 1938, & 1946. Stated 2nd edition, 1939. This copy from 10th printing in May, 1958. Printed in U.S.A. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a guide to understanding the intricacies of alternating-current electricity, a fundamental aspect of electrical systems. It begins with the basics of the subject, exploring the principles of transformer operation, impedance, power factor, and power in alternating-current circuits. The author clarifies the relation of current, voltage, and phase angle through vector diagrams, providing a solid grounding in the subject. As the book progresses, more complex concepts are introduced, such as the calculation of wire sizes, motor starters, and converter substations. The author also delves into power and power factor, explaining the importance of understanding these concepts for efficient energy consumption. This book is a valuable resource for those looking to master the fundamentals of alternating-current electricity, with clear explanations and practical applications that make the subject accessible and engaging. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
