Boyd served a year and a half as an orderly sergeant with the 15th Iowa Infantry Regiment. Excellent coverage in this diary especially on the battles of Shiloh and Corinth. It is a realistic view of soldier life. Boyd later became a Lieutenant in the 34th Iowa Infantry Regiment. Good+ copy first edition of the soft cover book. The spine's covering is wrinkled, otherwise it is a very good copy. 135 pages.

The author's regiment, the 15th Iowa, is included among William Fox's 300 "Fighting Regiments" of the Union Army. Boyd recounts his experiences at the Battle of Shiloh, Siege of Corinth, Battle of Corinth, and participation in the construction of the military canal at Lake Providence during the Vicksburg campaign. Boyd went on to become a lieutenant in the 34th Iowa. Original 1953 booklet bound in later blue cloth with gilt title. Contents clean and bright with black and white illustrations.
