This history of England tells the story of that nation from the landing of Julius Caesar in 54BC to the Jubilee of Queen Victoria's ascent to the Throne in 1887, with this third edition published to mark that event with a supplementary chapter on her reign. Apart from the early chapter…s, the history is arranged according to the successive ruling Houses of England. 740 pages, b/w frontis art of Victoria in 1836, "upwards" of 400 small illustrations "engraved" by the Brothers Dalziel, two folded maps at back, one somewhat creased but complete. The book has been reinforced with tape at the front and rear gutters and some early pages may be missing as this copy begins with the title page and the frontis is loose, the text block is otherwise excellent and tight. Red hard covers are G+ with a few marks, wear at spine extremities and corners, gilt title to front and spine, the latter somewhat dull, the front carries a Royal insignia VR impressed in black with Jubilee Edition in black below, covers now plastic protected, there is a school presentation book plate dated 22/12/87 to front pastedown, title page verso has two short lines of ink numerals and rear pastedown a card pocked, no other indications of library use.
