The Welsh landed interest was concerned with the way government institutions, taxation, administration and public expenditure affected the Principality. First ed, 1838, in modern green cloth, title in gilt. Spine, no title. Internally, new endpapers, [3], 4-51 pp. Has a line through 3…lines at rear, printed by J Limbird, light browning to tp and then page edges. A very nice copy of an uncommon title. Rice, Thomas Spring, first Baron Monteagle of Brandon, was a strong unionist and even went so far as to suggest in 1834, in a parliamentary speech which he later published, that Ireland be renamed West Britain (Brent, 51). See ODNB for a full Bio. Also the date 1838 is particularly significant as Wales was undergoing substantial administrative and political change following the 1830s reform era.

In good condition, lightly aged and folded twice, with slight traces of glue from mount…on reverse. Dated from 'The Uplands / East Sheen / Saturday'. 1p, 8vo. Eleven lines of text. 'Do look in at the British Gallery in Pall Mall to take another look at Culling Eardleys two Murillos which we visited together a few years back. I should not despair of obtaining them on reasonable terms & I think the purchase for our national Collection would not be a discreditable memorial of the present exhibition / All our Trustees will be in town & we [should easily have?] a good meeting'.
