Robertson (1742-1814), a Virginia native, accompanied Daniel Boone on his third expedition across the Alleghanies in 1759, participated in the Regulator movement in North Carolina, settled in Watauga shortly before the Revolution, and fought against the Indians there; with John Donelson founded Nashville in 1779, then served as an Indian Agent and a brigadier-general in the militia until his death. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper in 1935. A family copy, heavily marked in pencil, some pencil annotations, several marginal red pencil markings, several corners turned down; still a good solid copy. Original red cloth (rubbed, front panel of dust jacket mounted to front pastedown, contemporary newspaper review of the book affixed to rear pastedown). (9444).
