Taf., feiner Pappband im Stil der Zeit, mit Rückenschildchen und Rückenvergoldung. 1822 gab Theodore Ducamp (1793-1823) Dilatationskatheter mit einem aufblasbaren Ballon" aus Goldschlägerhäutchen (denaturierte Rinderdarmmucosa) an. Zusätzlich beschrieb er einen Ätzmittelträger." Ducamp's method of treating strictures of the urethra by cauterization contributed to his reputation as one of the reformers of French surgery at the beginning of the nineteenth century. He took a mold of the stricture, then introduced a filiform bougie through an open-ended catheter and dilated the stricture sufficiently to admit his caustic-carrier. The caustic was placed in a small cavity near the end of a platinum rod which was carried to the stricture through an open-ended tube to protect the distal urethra. Ducamp realized that the stricture was not eradicated by the caustic and that subsequent dilatation was necessary, and this after-treatment was probably the secret of his success.x -cf.
