Biographical Essay of Hans Christian Heg, fro1829-1863, beginning in south-eastern Norway and ending on the fields of Chickamauga in northern Georgia where he was killed. He led a regiment of Scandinavian soldiers from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota to the battlefields of the South in the Civil War. Troubles with the Chippewa Chief Hole-In-The-Day in north central Minnesota is the subject of the first report. The subject of Nicolay's second report is the tragic uprising of the Sioux Indians along the valley of the Minnesota River in southern Minnesota resulting in the massacre of hundreds of innocent settlers.
