Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 2nd Edition. Someone in Latin Club needs to knock it off with the stamp, but the book remains in solid condition. Clarendon Press reprint of Terence?s Adelphi, edited by Rev. A. Sloman, issued as the Second Edition and printed in 1963 per the reprint history. Bound in red cloth with black ornamental borders, this copy is in Very Good condition for a former school text: the boards remain bright with only moderate rubbing and mild corner wear; interior hinges are strong; and the text block is clean and solid. Institutional Latin Club stamps appear on the endpapers and rear board, and there is scattered but neat pencil annotation in the text, consistent with careful academic use. Pages are fresh with light toning only, and the binding is tight with no loosened gatherings. A surprisingly well-preserved and highly usable copy of this long-respected Oxford classical school edition. Publius Terentius Afer (Terence) was a North African-born Roman playwright of the second century BCE whose refined, elegant comedies shaped the development of Western drama and Latin style. Drawing from Greek New Comedy, he crafted plays noted for realism, psychological insight, and balanced dialogue. Adelphi remains one of his most studied works for its portrayal of education, family morality, and differing philosophies of childrearing.
