Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Sylvia Stokeld (illustrator). 1st Edition. This innovative private press was run from the Department of Design at Oxford Polytechnic (renamed in 1992 as Oxford Brookes University) and led by chief designer, Dennis Hall who, after retiring from the institution, set up his own press, Hanborough Parrot. Most of Inky Parrot's publications were dominated by illustration and bold design, but this "Bath Night" book is one of their smaller (in size) and more subdued (in design) offerings, and none the worse for that. Lovely little thing. Two sensitive stories of childhood with delightful pen & ink drawings. According to the prospectus, the edition was limited to 225 copies, broken down into 105 casebound copies and 85 copies in wraps, all signed by the author; and 35 casebound copies with hand-colored illustrations, signed by author and artist. The 35 copies were supposed to be numbered in Roman numerals, I to XXXV, but this doesn't appear to have been consistent. This copy is from the special 35 copies, signed by author and artist, but is numbered (somewhat confusingly) as 30/XXXIV. Also confusing is that most of the listed 35 copies I've seen have all, or most, of the internal illustrations hand-colored, but with this copy the hand-coloring has been applied only to the illustrated label pasted to the front board. Whatever. There's a little fading to the spine, otherwise a fine copy of this charming private press book. Signed by Author & Illustrator.
