This book prints the text of this coastal Connecticut city's first comprehensive plan. Swan, a New York consulting planner, was hired in 1926 and his plan was accepted three years later. The "Swan Plan" was remarkably v…isionary and included recommendations for road widenings and extensions, controls and regulations for land subdivisions, improvements to trolley and bus service, acquisition of land for schools and playgrounds, a series of park improvements and the development of an expanded Ocean Beach Park, waterfront recommendations for industrial and recreational purposes and improvement of rail services to spur industrial development. The book is illustrated with drawings and photographs as well as three folding maps. They show a map of New London, Ocean Beach and Alewife Parkway and the New London waterfront. A good copy with some light soiling and wear. The rear cover has some spotting and lacks a 1 inch piece in the lower corner. The text is good with some light tanning and a few lightly folded corners. The foldout map of the New London waterfront has a closed tear at the middle fold. Scarce.
