ISBN-13: 9781584772187; ISBN-10: 1584772182. Lansing, John, Jr. The Delegate from New York or Proceedings of the Federal Convention of 1787 from the Notes of John Lansing, Jr. Edited by Joseph Reese Strayer. Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1939. x, 125 pp. Reprinted 2002, 2018 by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. ISBN-13: 9781584772187; ISBN-10: 1584772182. Hardcover. New. $39.95 * John Lansing, Jr. [1754-1829] attended the Constitutional Convention as a delegate from New York. The notes were apparently intended for his private use, and it appears that he never altered or revised them. His heirs discovered his notes among his papers. Published until 1939, they provide a rich new primary source record for scholars of the Constitutional Convention. These notes are of value not only for their unique perspective on the principals involved, but for the issues regarding the states relationships he documented. Only in Lansing's notes do we find a report of two significant questions regarding states' rights and sovereignty, an explanation of Charles Pinckney's plan for the Senate, an exceptionally careful presentation of Hamilton's speeches on individual and states' rights and an explanation of the final vote on the New Jersey plan.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Summary:Annotation This study contains twenty-two essays by leading historians on the Tokugawa Period (1600-1868), eight of which have never before been published. The Tokugawa Period has long been seen as one of Eastern feudalism, awaiting the breakthrough that came with the Meiji enlightenment and the opening of Japan to the West. The general thrust of these papers is to show that in many institutional aspects Japan was far from backward before the Meiji Period, and that many of the preconditions of modernization were present and developing much earlier than has generally been believed. This collection will be particularly valuable to students and scholars of comparative and Japanese modernization.Originally published in 1968.The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These paperback editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
