Ab 1855 leitete Strakosch eine eigene Opernkompanie, zugleich hatte er einigen Erfolg als Komponist von Klavierstücken. Mit dem norwegischen Geiger Ole Bull reiste er als dessen Klavierbegleiter durch die USA.
