He went into partnership with Mathew Brady in 1849 and went on to publish the noted Gallery of Illustrious Americans in 1850 reproducing Brady's daguerrotypes. I shall stopp in Hamburg on my return from Scandinavia [.] We shall be in Hamburg the first days of October [.] I should be so happy to see you and your good mother [.]". - Strakosch, der in Wien bei Sechter Klavier studiert hatte und in Zagreb und Italien als Sänger aufgetreten war, ging 1848 nach New York, wo er bald als Impresario und Organisator großer Musikveranstaltungen reüssierte. Ab 1855 leitete Strakosch eine eigene Opernkompanie, zugleich hatte er einigen Erfolg als Komponist von Klavierstücken. Mit dem norwegischen Geiger Ole Bull reiste er als dessen Klavierbegleiter durch die USA.
