Neuware - A transformative and empowering framework for parents, educators, and mentors raising children with the ability to respond. In Response - ABILITY: Empowering Children to Choose Growth Over Reactivity, coach, advocate, and corporate strategist Rachel Estes Leyk delivers a heartfelt and highly practical guide to raising emotionally resilient, self-aware children. Rooted in a decade of research with lived experience as the mother of an autistic child and the precision of her MBA and strategy career (Target, Salesforce, Slalom), this book introduces the Response - ABILITY Toolbox, a powerful set of tools designed to equip parents, caregivers, mentors, and educators with the tools and understanding needed to effectively support the children we serve.Rachel's mission is urgent and deeply personal. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 2023 OUP hardcover edition. Unread copy in very good condition. From the cover: This volume examines subordinate wh-clauses that lack an interrogative interpretation, particularly those in which the wh-word seems to deviate from its literal meaning. These include subordinate manner wh-clauses that have a declarative-like meaning, locative wh-clauses expressing kinds, and headed relatives that serve as recognitional cues, among many others. While regular interrogative embedding has been widely studied in recent years, little is known about the circumstances under which non-interrogative (subordinate) wh-clauses are licensed, nor why some, but not all, wh-phrases can be polyfunctional. The chapters in the book combine the study of cross-linguistic variations in patterns of subordination with formal semantic and syntactic analyses, with data drawn from a wide range of languages including Basque, Czech, English, Mandarin, Romanian, and Taiwan Southern Min. They provide novel insights into the ways in which wh-phrases can be used to introduce complements, relative clauses, and adverbial clauses, and show how the meanings associated with wh-words are exploited beyond their standard distribution. The findings have implications for our understanding of both the phenomenon of subordination as a whole and the relationship between form and meaning in wh-clauses. Contents: 1. Varieties of non-interrogative subordinate wh-clauses - Lukasz Jedrzejowski and Carla Umbach 2. Two kinds of English non-manner how-clauses - Kristina Liefke 3. Tense in how- and that-clauses under visual perception: A view from Russian - Atle Gronn 4. Basque non-interrogative nola as a (de dicto) factive complementizer - Aritz Irurtzun 5. Depictive manner complements - Carla Umbach, Stefan Hinterwimmer, and Cornelia Ebert 6. Decomposing adverbs and complementizers: A case study of Dutch hoe 'how' - Norbert Corver 7. Perceptive evidential wie-clauses in German: A situation-based approach - Roland Hinterholzl 8. Czech evidential relatives introduced by jak 'how': Recognitional cues for the hearer - Radek Simik and Jakub Slama 9. Comparative relatives in German - Andreas Pankau 10. German wie-comment and reporting clauses: A comparison with so-parentheticals - Karin Pittner and Werner Frey 11. Embedding force and attitude: Evidence from Chinese and Vietnamese non-canonical wh-expressions - Wei-Tien Dylan Tsai 12. Asking about the reason for an effect, and some consequences for the analysis of wh-interrogatives - Lucia M. Tovena 13. 'Why' without asking in Romanian - Ivano Caponigro and Anamaria Falaus 14.
