Octavo,four volumes,the bookplate of J. Cecil le Soueff. Publisher's pebble-grained cloth, some stamps and blemishes, scarce. The early volumes have substantial papers by Ferdinand von Mueller on plants, Francoise du Castelnau on fish and the Melbourne Botanic Gardens. The infamous introduction of the rabbit happened at this time. PROVENANCE: John Cecil Le Souef (1905-182) was an entomologist, the son of William H. Le Souef and grandson of Albert Le Souef. Albert Le Souef was the first director of Melbourne Zoo and a founding member of tjhe Zoological and Acclimatisation Society of Victoria.
