[52] pp.; 21 x 24 cm.; sewn bound; black-and-white; edition size unkown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed Two volume exhibition catalogue published in conjunction with two-part show held March 14 ? May 18, 2014 and May 25 ? August 3. "Other Primary Structures revisited the premise of and built upon the Museum''s seminal 1966 exhibition Primary Structures: Younger American and British Sculptors, the first American museum exhibition to survey the style now known as Minimalism. Primary Structures introduced the public to such artists as Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Walter De Maria, Robert Morris, and others--figures unknown at the time but soon to become synonymous with a radically new approach to sculpture. Nearly 50 years later, Other Primary Structures revisits this formative moment in art history while also reexamining the period from today''s far more global perspective. "Presented in two parts, the first part of the exhibition titled Others 1, examined work created between 1960 and 1967, while Others 2, on view from May 25 ? August 3, presented work created between 1967 and 1970, some of which was directly influenced by the 1966 Primary Structures exhibition at the Jewish Museum." -- publisher''s statement. This publication includes a faithful reprint of the original 1966 catalogue published in conjunction with show held April 27 - June 12, 1966. Essay by exhibition''s curator Kynaston McShine. Includes works by Carl Andre, David Annesley, Richard Artschwager, Larry Bell, Ronald Bladen, Michael Bolus, Anthony Caro, Tony DeLap, Walter de Maria, Tom Doyle, Dan Flavin, Peter Forakis, Paul Frazier, Judy Gerowitz, Daniel Gorski, David Gray, Robert Grosvenor, David Hall, Douglas Huebler, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Phillip King, Lyman Kipp, Gerald Laing, Sol LeWitt, John McCracken, Tina Matkovic, Robert Morris, Forrest Myers, Peter Phillips, Peter Pinchbeck, Salvatore Romano, Tim Scott, Anthony Smith, Robert Smithson, Michael Todd, Anne Truitt, William Tucker, Richard Van Buren, David von Schlegell, Isaac Witkin and Derrick Woodham. A seminal exhibition. Catalogue incorporates statements by many of the participating artists along with bibliographies and biographies. Catalogue design by Elaine Lustig Cohen. The second volume includes text by Jens Hoffmann and excerpts from the transcript of a symposium, "The New Sculpture," held May 2, 1966. Artists include Rasheed Araeen, Sérgio de Camargo, Willys de Castro, Saloua Raouda Choucair, Lygia Clark, Noemí Escandel, Gego, Stanislav Kolíbal, Edward Krasinski, David Lamelas, David Medalla, Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Pape, Alejandro Puente, Norberto Puzzolo, Branko Vlahovic, Oscar Bony, Benni Efrat, Yoshida Katsuro, Stanislav Kolíbal, Susumu Koshimizu, Ivan Kozaric, Amir Nour, Juan Pablo Renzi, Nobuo Sekine, Antonieta Sosa, Juro Takamatsu, and Lee Ufan. September, 1955 / Issue number 11 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with this very November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 34 pp. About Near Fine, showing just age toning and a corner crease. See scans. This late 1954 issue was the start of something new under Smith; not much interior art yet - but there would be in 1955 and 1956. Cover by Cindy (Smith), back cover Neil Austin, interior art by Cindy, Austin, Morris Scott Dollens, Gilbert, and Powlesland. Three short stories (see scan of contents page) are unusual for this fanzine series. January, 1955 / issue number 7 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 38 pp. Near Fine; thin peripheral toning (see scans). This January / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was in the process of improving the fanzine, which had been erratic in quality in prior years; 1956, yet to come, would be perhaps the best year. This issue features an innovation: three authors each write the story "The Martian Who Hated People", illustrated on the cover by Cindy (Smith). Interior art includes contributions from Smith, Morris Scott Dollens, Neil Austin, Terry Carr, Alan Hunter, Bill Price, Denness Morton, and Paul Blaisdell. The three-time story is essayed here, separately, by Joseph Slotkin, Naaman Peterson and Edward Ludwig. Article contributions are by Ross Rocklynne, Jim Harmon and Paul Blaisdell. The editorial staff of Ron Smith and assistants Henry Moskowitz, Don Donnell and Charles Neutzel complete the opinion features. See scan of contents page. A rarity, for the collector. l-pr1.
