Wraps are intact and unmarked, with just a bit of rubbing along several edges. 8 ½ x 5 ½, 56 pages, 3 ounces XX [from the preface] As you read the poems in this, the 4th volume of JUST BORN POEMS, notice the joy and the light which poetry brought forth from the children who wrote them. As they voice their hopes, dreams and fears they connect the reader with their lives most powerfully. Through their poems we are led through their personal journeys seeing the world as they do -- each differently. For the fourth year, a professional writer who works as part of the Poets in Public Service Inc. program conducted writing workshops with the chronically ill, terminally ill and disabled youngsters at St Mary's Hospital for Children. In their workshops, which were conducted once each week from September 1988 to June 1989, PIPS writer Eva Skrande encouraged the children to tell stories of themselves through the symbolism of poetry.

Metaphorically, it looks at life as a journey of and to exile. The book explores, for example, the journey from childhood through older ages and suggests that death is the ultimate exile as we leave the country of the body. These poems are incantations that challenge, refuse, and accept loss and longing.
