    Quarter Leather. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. xii, 372 p. 48 engravings from S. T. Gill's sketches (nowhere credited). Rebound in blue leather with marbled paper boards. Frontispiece and title page have roughened edges. Slight damp staining within. According to his own account, Sherer arrived in Melbourne in 1852, struck it rich mining for gold in Bendigo, then returned home to write this colourful account.

Samuel Orchart Beeton was a renowned English publisher, who notably founded and published the first and most influential boys' magazine 'Boy's Own Magazine' and also 'The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine', a pioneering serial for middle-class women. Whilst Beeton's name is normally associated with the success of his wife 'Mrs Beeton', or Isabella Mary Mayson and her incredibly popular work 'Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management', Samuel Beeton also wrote and published self-help textbooks and informative works, on topics such as Geography, Birds, Natural History and so forth. Containing entries on the following topics: Geography, History, Biography, Mythology, Bible Knowledge and Chronology. Complete in two volumes, with a 'table of chronology' to the rear of volume II. This copy is undated, dated using the preface to the front of volume I. Collates, complete with fourteen folding maps to volume I and six folding plates to the rear of volume II, one of which is coloured. In a half polished calf binding with cloth covered boards. Externally, bumped and rubbed to extremities and head and tail of spines. Leather cracked to spines and joints. Spine label to volume II lifting and slightly chipped. Joints starting but firm. Rear joint partially split to head, volume II. Hinges strained, with rear hinge volume II split and weak. Internally firmly bound. Pages age toned with the odd spot. Tear to folding plate facing title page, volume I. Very Good. book.

These illustrations not only depict attractive sporting scenes, but also show the anatomy of the horse, and pictorial representations of the process of shoeing the animal. This copy is undated, with no copies listed on Copac. In a half polished calf binding with marbled paper boards. Externally, lovely. Slight fading to spines. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned but clean throughout, with the odd spot. The odd faint scattered spot to first and last few pages.
