He is author of The Urban Elite: Higher Education : Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes with Dr. Umed Raj Nahar as its coauthor. Dr. Lal has edited Dimensions of a Cultural Policy : Gandhiji and Village: The Sociological Perspective of Land Reforms: Medical Care: Readings in Medical Sociology and India's Population Policy: Critical Issues for Future with Dr. Ambika Chandani as Coeditors. Dr. Lal is the Life member of Indian Sociological Society and the President of Rajasthan Sociological Association. He is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Sociological Studies.
