London: Walter Scott, 24 Warwick Lane; New York: 3 East 14th Street; Melbourne, [c.1888]. Undated later issue of the anthology associated with Walter Scott's Canterbury Poets series; exact impression not confirmed. Research points towards an issue of approximately 1888. 335 numbered text pages, with colophon "The Walter Scott Press, Newcastle-on-Tyne." Decorative black grained binding with gilt title to upper cover, horizontal scale-patterned decorative onlays to both covers, gilt borders, marbled endpapers and all edges gilt. Binding solid and pages complete, confirmed by the seller. Good condition. Moderate rubbing and scuffing to binding and extremities; decorative bands rubbed and stained, particularly to rear cover. Gilt edges scratched and rubbed. Scattered foxing and spotting, heavier on some preliminary and terminal leaves. Possible older reback or spine repair: the plain spine covering differs materially in texture from the grained covers, but the nature of any repair is not confirmed. No dust jacket present.
