Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. pp 216. 'The Easter Rising of 1916 was the foundation event of modern Ireland. The event itself, the myths that it created, and the political fallout combined to transform the country. A new, more radical generation of nationalists displaced the Home Rulers who had dominated Irish… politics since the 1880s. The nationalist demand became more urgent, more intransigent - and crucially, it was supported in arms. Shane Hegarty and Fintan O'Toole focus on the events of the Rising itself, rather that the background and the consequences. "The Irish Times Book of the 1916 Rising" recreates the actual course of events during that tumultuous week, based on contemporary witnesses, memoirs and lateer recollections.'.
