Publisher's review: "Vesnin's career ran the gamut from Gothic-cubist costume designs to massive architectural projects like the Pravda newspaper building and the Dnieper Dam. A star of the Russian constuctivist movement in the years after the revolution, he carried avant-garde experimentation into painting, graphic art, theater design and architecture. Vesnin's buildings and complexes of the 1930s reveal his constructivist roots but make begrudging concessions to prevailing fashions. Late in his career he produced intense self-portraits as well as pictures of Moscow streets and women that have a monumental gravity and rightness. This album by an authority on Russian architecture is claimed to be the first full-length study on Vesnin (18831959) to be published in English. Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc." Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - What if the problem is not that you have failed at happiness, but that you have been following someone else's formula We are surrounded by advice about how to be happy. Think positively. Practice gratitude. Be more mindful. Find your purpose. Stay productive.Yet even when we do everything we are told, happiness can remain strangely elusive. The Alchemy of Happiness offers a different possibility: there may be no single formula for a flourishing life because there is no single way that human beings flourish.Drawing on research from positive psychology, wellbeing science, neuroscience, population health, relationship science, and emerging personalized approaches to human behavior, Dr. Selim Khan explores one of the most important shifts in the science of happiness: what helps one person may do little for another, and sometimes the harder we try to force happiness, the further it seems to move away.Through compelling science, memorable human stories, and practical reflection, you will discover: - Why trying too hard to be happy can sometimes undermine wellbeing- The difference between creating conditions for joy and clinging to how you think you should feel- Why one-size-fits-all happiness advice so often falls short- How awareness, meaning, movement, relationships, nature, creativity, awe, and flow can support flourishing- Why the quality and fit of a practice may matter as much as the practice itself- How to use the Happiness Audit to notice your own patterns without turning wellbeing into another performance- How to build an evidence-informed toolkit that fits your life rather than forcing yourself to fit the toolkit- How to adapt and sustain that practice through setbacks, uncertainty, and changing seasons of lifeAt the heart of the book is a simple idea: Science can show us where to look.Only careful attention to our own lives can reveal what truly fits. That is the alchemy. Not the transformation of base metals into gold, but the transformation of ordinary experience into a life of greater meaning, connection, flexibility, resilience, and genuine wellbeing. The Alchemy of Happiness does not promise that you will feel happy all the time. That promise is part of the problem the book is written to undo.Instead, it offers something more honest and more useful: a way to become both the gardener and the scientist of your own life.Observe.Test.Experience.Adjust.Learn.Return.You already possess the raw materials. Now discover what helps your life flourish.…

ALEXANDER VESNIN - and Russian Constructivism COMO NUEVO- Muy Bien- Con Sobrecubierta.

Hardcover. BW illustrated boards. 206 pp. Profusely illustrated in color and bw. As spokesman of the Inkhuk group, which included Vladimir Tatlin as a leading member, Alexander Rodchenko was a decisive factor in the development of abstract art with his paintings, sculptures and architectural designs. This monograph focuses on Rodchenko's sculptures and presents a large number of works created by the Russian Constructivist. These can be loosely divided into three groups, beginning with the abstract sculptures dating from the year 1918, in which the artist renders the geometric surfaces of his pictures "spatially," assembling two-dimensional material, cardboard or plywood. Subsequently, works that are intended to be freely suspended within a given space form a second series of constructions: These light, perforated interlacings, consisting of similar geometrical contours, were flexible, kinetic sculptures, also viewed as the first mobiles. A third group represents Rodchenko's constructions of standard type squared timber produced in around 1920, which were never shown during his lifetime. These sculptures, constructed of raw wooden modules and reminiscent of Art Brut, demonstrate the universal validity of the principles governing the organization of forms, upon which the constructivists based the composition of their paintings. Contents as follows: Alexander Rodchenko and spatial construction in the 20th century = Alexander Rodtschenko und die Raumkonstruktion im 20. Jahrhundert / Christoph Brockhaus -- On spatial constructions = Uber Raumkonstruktionen / Varvara Stepanova -- Alexander Rodchenko's spatial constructions = Alexander Rodtschenkos Raumkonstruktionen / Selim O.
