Beide Wissenschaftler waren Autoritäten in ihren fachgebieten. - Felix Plaut hatte gemeinsam mit A. v. Wassermann syphilitische Antistoffe in der Cerebrospinalflüssigkeit von Paralytikern festgestellt (s. Garrison/Morton 4804) und Hugo Schottmüller 'Streptothrix muris ratti' bei den von Ratten gebissenen Patienten isoliert (G/M 5325). Im vorliegenden Werk wurden die Kapitel physikalischen, chemischen und zytologischen Inhalts von O. Rehm, der serologische Abschnitt von Plaut und bakteriologische von Schottmüller bearbeitet.
