Condition: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Seiten: 648 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | The review articles collected in this volume present a critical assessment of particle acceleration mechanisms and observations from suprathermal particles in the magnetosphere and heliosphere to high-energy cosmic rays, thus covering… a range of energies over seventeen orders of magnitude, from 103 eV to 1020 eV. The main themes are observations of accelerated populations from the magnetosphere to extragalactic scales and assessments of the physical processes underlying particle acceleration in different environments (magnetospheres, the solar atmosphere, the heliosphere, supernova remnants, pulsar wind nebulae and relativistic outflows). Several contributions review the status of shock acceleration in different environments and also the role of turbulence in particle acceleration. Observational results are compared with modelling in different parameter regimes. The book concludes with contributions on the status of particle acceleration research and its future perspectives. This volume is aimed at graduate students and researchers active in astrophysics and space science. Previously published in Space Science Reviews journal, Vol. 173 Nos. 1-4, 2012.

Soft Cover. Condition: Very Good. Volume 846/Copyright © 1990. 983 + xix pp. Vol. 846 issue only! Over-sized and/or over weight book; may require additional postage. Please note that large and/or heavy items may incur extra shipping charge for both domestic and/or international shipments. A great, almost spotlessly clean copy! S…olidly and tightly bound, essentially and nearly flawless copy with minimal internal and external wear and use. Copy with crisp pages, clean text, and light shelf wear. Synopsis: This single-volume encyclopedia contains 977 articles by 135 qualified scholars of various academic and ecumenical backgrounds, with coverage extending from New Testament times to approximately 600 A.D. Entries cover persons, places, doctrines, and practices and include some articles on modern scholars important to the study of early Christianity. The entries vary in length, but each begins with a brief definition, or identification, followed by chronological or topical development. Excellent short bibliographies following each article give patristic citations, editions, translations, and studies. The articles avoid technical language and provide good basic summaries of the material. This work will be useful for teachers, scholars, and students as well as for reference work. Recommended for public and academic libraries. John M-Röblin (Design & Electronic Page Layout) (illustrator).

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. In no other New Testament writing does the interest in the cult and its practice figure more prominently than in the Epistle to the Hebrews. Whereas scholarly research has preoccupied itself with the high priesthood of Christ, comparatively little consideration has previously been given to t…he implied priesthood of the readers. Scholer begins with an examination of the role and function of the priesthood found in the Old Testament, Pseudepigrapha, Qumran, rabbinic, Philo and mystery traditions. His second goal is to discover why the readers of Hebrews may be described as priests, and how the high-priestly Christology of the writer impinges on the status of Christian believers. Finally, Scholer concludes that the priestly function of believers in Hebrews is to have 'access' to the divine presence, which for the writer is the significance of 'perfection' (teleioun). Such perfection does not await the eschaton, but rather anticipates a full consummation at the time of 'rest' (katapausis).
