Contact seller1-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fine. First, Limited edition. 12mo, 128 pages, red cloth, untrimmed One of only 500 copies. Schmauch was Dean of the Chicago Law School. This details the banning of Christmas under Cromwell. It also gives background for the three rare pamphlets included here: the famous HUE AND CRY AFTER CHRISTMAS, printed…in 1645; CANTERBURY CHRISTMAS, or a True Relation of the Insurrection in Canterbury on Christmas Day, from 1647; and finally, THE EXAMINATION AND TRYAL OF OLD FATHER CHRISTMAS, containing a verbatim report of a well imagined legal proceeding, published in 1678. Obsolete expressions are elucidated in an encyclopedic glossary.
