Er "erhielt als junger Officier schon 1800 die Lehrerstelle der Militärwissenschaften. In der Zeit von 1800-1807 betheiligte er sich als Officier zugleich an einer Gradmessung in Thüringen, bewerkstelligte verschiedene geodätische Aufnahmen und wurde 1807 als Oberlandfeldmesser, hierauf 1815 als Director der Cameralvermessung und endlich mit dem Titel eines königl. Kammerraths als Oberaufseher der Civilplankammer angestellt. Wissenschaftliche Reisen in's Ausland machten ihn nicht nur mit den Vermessungsmethoden, sondern auch mit den allgemeinen volkswirthschaftlichen Zuständen anderer Staaten bekannt, ganz besonders lernte er aber durch verschiedene Vermessungen und Herstellung von Karten die geognostischen und Culturverhältnisse seiner sächsischen Heimath näher kennen" (siehe ADB 31, S. 510ff). - Einband nur gering berieben und leicht bestoßen.
