Januar 1953 in Hamburg) ist ein deutscher Fernsehjournalist und Fernsehmoderator. Peter v. Sassen wurde in Hamb…urg geboren, besuchte dort Grundschule und Gymnasium und machte das Abitur am Emilie-Wüstenfeld-Gymnasium. Später studierte er in der Hansestadt Germanistik und Theaterwissenschaften. Während des Studiums kam es zu ersten Kontakten mit dem NDR und der damaligen Leitung des Regionalprogramms. Von Sassen bei einer Sendung zur Niedersachsenwahl 2013 Von Sassen wurde die Möglichkeit eröffnet, mehrere Wochen in den verschiedenen regionalen Redaktionen zu hospitieren. Aus diesen ersten Kontakt ergaben sich weitere Möglichkeiten der Hospitation während des Studiums. Mit 22 Jahren konnte v. Sassen seinen ersten kürzeren Fernsehbeitrag für die Redaktion des Freitagsmagazin realisieren. Es folgten kleinere Mitarbeiten auf freier Basis und weitere Beiträge während erneuter Hospitationen. Parallel dazu bewarb sich v. Sassen bei verschiedensten Hamburger Filmproduktion als freier Aufnahmeleiter, um weitere Erfahrungen im Filmgeschäft zu sammeln. Außerdem ergab sich die Möglichkeit zu einem längeren Praktikum als Kameraassistent bei der Deutschen Wochenschau in Hamburg. Eine neunmonatige Tätigkeit als Aufnahmeleiter für eine vorzubereitende ZDF-Kulturserie bei der Firma Multimedia brachte ihm das Angebot einer Festanstellung in dieser privaten Filmproduktion. Er lehnte ab, weil der große Traum, einmal beim NDR fest angestellt zu arbeiten, größer war. Nach vielen Umwegen gelang es Peter v. Sassen, beim Norddeutschen Rundfunk in Hannover eine Stelle als Jung-Redakteur zu besetzen. Zunächst in der aktuellen Fernseh-Redaktion, die für die Regionalnachrichten Berichte vom Tage und für die Tagesschau arbeitete - später dann in der Redaktion des Nordschau-Magazins. Insgesamt sind es rund 500 Fernsehbeiträge und Features mit Dreharbeiten auch im Ausland und auf anderen Erdteilen, die in den 37 Jahren beim Norddeutschen Rundfunk entstehen. Zu den wichtigsten Arbeiten gehören ein Porträt über die wohl berühmteste Kinderbuchautorin der Welt, Astrid Lindgren und ein 45-Minuten Feature über die Stadt Hiroshima. Peter v. Sassen hat 18 Jahre lang die Messe-Sendungen des NDR-Fernsehens in Hannover gestaltet und moderiert. Seit 1985 - also den ersten Tagen des neuen Regional-Magazins Hallo Niedersachsen - war er ein prägendes Gesicht für die Zuschauer in Niedersachsen. Durch die Sendungen Nordtour und Nordseereport wurde er auch überregional bekannt. 1998 übernahm v. Sassen die Redaktionsleitung der Sendung Nordseereport, modernisierte das Konzept des in ganz Norddeutschland beliebten Programms und entwickelte ganz neue Formen der Moderation ?vor Ort? Frühe Reisen in den hohen Norden und in die hohe Arktis brachten dem Nordseereport überdurchschnittliche Einschaltquoten und ein Renommee als Hochglanzmagazin des NDR-Fernsehens. Am 16. Dezember 2016 moderierte er zum letzten Mal das Fernsehmagazin Hallo Niedersachsen (Regionalmagazin für das Land Niedersachsen) und verabschiedete sich nach über 30 Jahren auf dem Bildschirm von seinem Publikum. Von Sassen ist der Onkel des deutschen Schauspielers Felix von Sassen. Aktuelle Tätigkeit Peter v. Sassen bereist seit 20 Jahren die polaren Gebiete der Arktis und Antarktis und arbeitet nach seiner Tätigkeit beim NDR als Lektor für Polargeschichte auf Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiffen verschiedener Reedereien und Gesellschaften. Außerdem entstehen bereits seit 2007 abendfüllende Multimedia-Schauen und Lesungen. Als Fotograf und Kameramann erstellt er regelmäßig neue Live-Reportagen, die er in Niedersachsen und ganz Norddeutschland auf diversen Bühnen persönlich präsentiert. Multimediale Porträts über Wilhelm Busch und Astrid Lindgren gehören ebenso dazu wie Bild-Reportagen über die Arktis und Antarktis. Peter v. Sassen arbeitet zusätzlich als Autor und Moderator.
