Seit den 2000er Jahren gibt es einige wenige Versuche, die Bedürfnisse von Autisten in Bezug auf die physische Umgebung im Zusammenhang mit der architektonischen Gestaltung zu untersuchen. Die Störung erfordert jedoch weitere Forschung und Beobachtung, um herauszufinden, welche räumlichen Eigenschaften ihre Leistungsfähigkeit im Lernprozess verbessern und sie zur Teilnahme am normalen Leben ermutigen können. Der Zweck dieser Studie ist es, eine verständliche Design-Checkliste für Architekten und Innenarchitekten zu erstellen, die bei der Gestaltung von Räumen für Autisten verwendet werden kann.
