He set up his apothecary's stall in Smithfield outside St Bartholomew's and styled himself "Professor of Physic".William Salmon (1644?1713) was an English empiric doctor and a writer of medical texts. He advertised himself as a "Professor of Physick". Salmon held an equivocal place in the medical community. He led apothecaries in opposing attempts by physicians to control the dispensing of medicines, and was derided by physicians as "the King of the Quacks". He has been described as "a brilliant publicist, but not much of a philosopher".Salmon, translated, abridged, enlarged and compiled from the texts of others" to create popular books emphasizing practice over theory, and marketing his own medications. A prolific author on a broad range of medical topics, Salmon's works were widely read in his time. Binding is leather, Spine is very good, clear embossed title to spine, rear is very good, lacks front cover. Contents very good, clean & tight copy, a few pages trimmed too much by the printer, only noticed a couple of minor tears, and couple of corner tip folds, and a few minor marks. Main title page is Aristotle's Compleat Master Piece To which is added A Treasure of Health; in Three Parts; Therefore 1st is Displaying the Secrets, 2nd Aristotle's Compleat and Experienc'd Midwife, 3rd Aristotle's Book of Problems, with Other Astronomers, Astrologers, Physicians, and Philosophers. 4th Aristotle's Last Legacy, Unfolding the Mysteries of Nature in the Generation of Man. Contains 5 illustrated frontispiece, 7 illustrations within text & one fold out illustration. So looks as if all plates present, only loss seems to be a half title a very front. Apparently banned in England, believed to be by William Salmon who used Aristotle's name to remain anonymous.
