Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes the advances and challenges facing Western civilization. The author places America within that trajectory and posits that the nation is uniquely positioned to confront these daunting issues. While the author acknowledges encouraging aspects of American civilization, they also highlight pressing problems, particularly the complexities of race and class. The text delves into the importance of education, proposing technical and industrial education as a means to combat unemployment. In painting a vivid picture of American society, the author underscores the need for moral and spiritual forces to support material progress. Ultimately, this book provides a profound exploration of the forces shaping America and its role in fostering a just and equitable future for all. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Cowles, 23d U.S. Infantry. This color lithograph map was published in 1895 at the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C. It is an absolutely stand-out achievement in cartography and an essential element of the massive war records of the Civil War. The maps published in this atlas were tremendously detailed (depending of the scale). In general the maps locate topographic and geographical factors, plus railroads, forts, encampments, and in some cases when the scale allows, it is detailed to individual houses. It of course shows troop movements, battle positions, and lines of battle and its progress. The work done for the atlas is superb. "Though the race-question in the South led to the great civil war, it was not fully settled by it. The great republic could make the slave free and its citizen, but could not, at the same time, arm him with the necessary intelligence and experience that would enable him to exercise the rights of a free man.
