Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,7, University of Osnabrück (Amerikanistik), course: Construction Grammar, language: English, abstract: All in all, Generative Grammar assumes that a speaker's grammatical knowledge is organized into components: the phonological component, the morphological component, the syntactic component and the semantic component. Construction Grammar, on the other hand, assumes that idiomatic expressions are everywhere and that all grammatical patterns are riddled with exceptions and idiosyncrasies. This leads to the assumption that the totality of our knowledge of language is captured by a network of constructions, a so-called 'construct-i-con'. Furthermore, constructions are symbolic units that are not strictly predictable. As Goldberg puts it, '[a]ny linguistic pattern is recognized as a construction as long as some aspect of its form or function is not strictly predictable from its component parts or from other constructions recognized to exist'. Therefore, if the meaning of an idiom cannot be figured out by the literal meaning of its parts, it is a construction. This assumption does not automatically exclude that even a semantically compositional and regular linguistic form could be a construction, as Goldberg explains: 'In addition, patterns are stored as constructions even if they are fully predictable as long as they occur with sufficient frequency'. This assumption leads to the fact that predictable linguistic forms such as 'I love you' or 'How has your day been ' turn out to be entrenched predictable constructions.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Film Science, grade: 1,3, University of Münster, language: English, abstract: In my term paper, I will examine the narrative structure in 'Memento' which switches between chronological narration and reversed temporality. With respect to this unique narrative structure, I will take a closer look at the black-and-white and colour sequences, the opening sequence and the outstanding and resolvent scene 22/A, especially regarding the cinematography used. In the further course of my work, you will learn of the essential role of the unreliable narrator regarding my thesis and finally what impact the fabula construction in 'Memento' has on his viewers.'Causes and their effects are basic to narrative, but they take place in time'. This quotation from Bordwell's and Thompson's work Film Art, an Introduction does not only show a fundamental principle of narration but furthermore depicts a possibility to manipulate the spectator's understanding of a story. Christopher Nolan's 'Memento' is one example of what a complex narration can be. The film shows two separate stories of Leonard, an ex-insurance investigator who suffers anterograde amnesia and attempts to find the murderer of his wife, which is the last thing he can remember. On the one hand there is a forward moving storyline, the black-and-white scenes while the other one, the colour sequences, tells the story backwards. Although the story behind the film is rather simple, the narrative structure is extremely complex and clever, which demands constant attention from its spectators. This term paper will deal with the methods used in 'Memento' which mislead the audience's understanding of the story. My thesis is therefore: Narrative complexity in Christopher Nolan's 'Memento' - Narrative structure, Narrator's unreliability, fabula construction and cinematography as key elements for the spectator's manipulation. Apart from the film 'Memento', the central literature I will work with is the essay by Stefano Ghislotti 'Narrative Comprehension Made Difficult: Film, Form and Mnemonic Devices in 'Memento'', the documentary 'Anatomy of a Scene' about the making of 'Memento', a text by Andy Klein named 'Everything You Wanted to Know about 'Memento'' and different filmic narrativity by Jakob Lothe, David Herman and Edward Branigan. In addition to that, there is a self-generated sequence analysis attached to the term paper in order to have an overall view of the scenes I take a closer look at.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2016 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1,3, University of Osnabrück (Anglistik/Amerikanistik), course: Urban Landscapes of Modernity, language: English, abstract: The Crowd dramatizes the plight of an average working man and provides different readings of the film of who is finally responsible for John Sims' misery. Apart from the narrative itself, the spectator can make his own interpretation of the discourses aroused by the narrative with the help of cinematic style which offers nondiegetic elements and thereby defamiliarizes the viewer with the story. This term paper will focus on the interplay between the cinematic devices and the discourses aroused in the narrative of The Crowd which contribute to the viewer's insight and his determining of the responsible element(s) for John Sims' failure. With respect to this, my thesis is: The cinematic devices in The Crowd combined with the discourses aroused in the narrative play an outstanding role in the viewer's defamiliarization with the story and final understanding of the plot. The paper starts out with a theoretical introduction to narrative construction in film in order to provide the basis for a further analysis. This introductory chapter is further important as it shows that there is an interaction between the audience and the plot of a film, which plays a noticeable role in the interpretation of The Crowd. The subsequent chapter deals with a close analysis of scenes and themes in the film from a spectator's point of view that depict the intimidating power of mass society, John Sims as a crowd-man and the influence of patriarchy, elements which contribute to John Sims' failure. As a final step, I will draw a conclusion on the basis of the results from the analyses.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Literaturwissenschaft - Allgemeines, Note: 1,3, Universität Osnabrück (Anglistik/Amerikanistik), Veranstaltung: Magical Realist Border Fiction, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The main focus of this term paper are the different steps and binary forces Antonio goes through and has to face in order to finally being able to constitute his transcultural identity. Furthermore, the paper should highlight the necessity of difference and a 'double vision' which make the constitution of a new identity possible. Therefore my thesis is: Hybridity as a key element in Rudolfo Anaysa's 'Bless Me,Ultima' in the process of identity construction, exemplified in the main character Antonio Márez. The term paper starts with the magical realist elements and features of the Bildungsroman present in 'Bless Me, Ultima', which are part of the novel's formal hybridity which is discussed in the subsequent paragraph, apart from the content-related hybridity. Afterwards, I will focus on Antonio's search for identity throughout the novel with its different steps, from alienation at the beginning, his loss of innocence in the middle up to his final understanding and therefore the last step of his move from childhood to adolescence. Apart from the novel 'Bless Me, Ultima' itself, the central literature I will work with is Angelika Köhler's essay The New World Man: Magical Realism in Rudolfo Anaya's 'Bless Me, Ultima' and Juan Bruce-Novoa's 'Learning to Read' (and/in) Rudolfo Anaya's 'Bless Me, Ultima' .'She took my hand, and the silent, magic powers she possessed made beauty from the raw, sun-baked llano, the green river valley, and the blue bowl which was the white sun's home.' It is this opening paragraph in 'Bless Me, Ultima' which introduces the reader directly to Antonio's state of alienation at the beginning of the novel since these natural surroundings represent separated entities for him. And this is exactly what he is struggling with through the entire novel: There are several dichotomies in his life that seem irreconcilable to Antonio, especially the oppositional traditions of his parental lines, the Lunas and the Márez, and closely related to that the religious question he struggles with. When Ultima comes to live with his family, Antonio starts his journey towards self-discovery, going through different steps until he can finally complete his rites of passage and esteem his hybrid mestizo identity.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Romanistik - Spanische Sprache, Literatur, Landeskunde, Note: 1,3, Universität Osnabrück (Institut für Romanistik), Veranstaltung: Spanische Lyrik im 20.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware -Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Literaturwissenschaft - Allgemeines, Note: 1,3, Universität Osnabrück (Anglistik/Amerikanistik), Veranstaltung: Magical Realist Border Fiction, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The main focus of this term paper are the different steps and binary forces Antonio goes through and has to face in order to finally being able to constitute his transcultural identity. Furthermore, the paper should highlight the necessity of difference and a ¿double vision¿ which make the constitution of a new identity possible. Therefore my thesis is: Hybridity as a key element in Rudolfo Anaysäs 'Bless Me,Ultima' in the process of identity construction, exemplified in the main character Antonio Márez. The term paper starts with the magical realist elements and features of the Bildungsroman present in 'Bless Me, Ultima', which are part of the novel¿s formal hybridity which is discussed in the subsequent paragraph, apart from the content-related hybridity. Afterwards, I will focus on Antoniös search for identity throughout the novel with its different steps, from alienation at the beginning, his loss of innocence in the middle up to his final understanding and therefore the last step of his move from childhood to adolescence. Apart from the novel 'Bless Me, Ultima' itself, the central literature I will work with is Angelika Köhler¿s essay The New World Man: Magical Realism in Rudolfo Anayäs 'Bless Me, Ultima' and Juan Bruce-Novoäs 'Learning to Read' (and/in) Rudolfo Anayäs 'Bless Me, Ultima' .¿She took my hand, and the silent, magic powers she possessed made beauty from the raw, sun-baked llano, the green river valley, and the blue bowl which was the white sun¿s home.¿ It is this opening paragraph in 'Bless Me, Ultima' which introduces the reader directly to Antoniös state of alienation at the beginning of the novel since these natural surroundings represent separated entities for him. And this is exactly what he is struggling with through the entire novel: There are several dichotomies in his life that seem irreconcilable to Antonio, especially the oppositional traditions of his parental lines, the Lunas and the Márez, and closely related to that the religious question he struggles with. When Ultima comes to live with his family, Antonio starts his journey towards self-discovery, going through different steps until he can finally complete his rites of passage and esteem his hybrid mestizo identity.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 24 pp. Deutsch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Film Science, grade: 1,3, University of Münster, language: English, abstract: In my term paper, I will examine the narrative structure in 'Memento' which switches between chronological narration and reversed temporality. 20 pp. Englisch.

20 pp. Englisch.

24 pp. Englisch.
