Binding remains firm. Crinkling to pages at gutters. Pages are moderately tanned throughout. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. There is bumping to corners and crushing to spine ends. Tanning to spine and edges causing slight discolouration. Gilt lettering is darkened. Book has a slight forward lean. Splits to spine tail joints.

Orange cloth lettered in gilt to spine on black panel, no dustjacket. 508pp. With 6 colour plates, 95 monochrome photos in plates and 4 line drawings in the text. The author was a conservator of paintings at the National Gallery. Includes bibliography and supplementary material by Joyce Plesters. A Good only copy. Covers clean and bright. Most pages clean but a few have large brown stains ( while used in a conservator's studio?) - though they do not prevent the text being clearly read. Also some smaller spot stains and browning to the closed page edges; front endpapers rather spotted and have name and small gift inscription . Pictures available.
