Add to basketA new species of land-snail (Streptaxidae: Gulella) from montane forest in the Ukaguru Mountains (Tanzania) is described and attributed to subgenus Juventigulella Tattersfield on shell characters. There are shell and radular resemblances to certain other Gulella species not in subgenus Juventigulella, emphasising the need for re…visionary work. This is the second endemic snail described from the Ukagurus, a recognised area of endemism but one from which few land snails have been collected. 7 pp., 8 figs, gr. 8.

Add to basketThe family Streptaxidae in Laos is revised. Twelve species are known, mainly from limestone areas, in the genera Discartemon Pfeiffer, 1856, Perrottetia Kobelt, 1905, Haploptychius Möllendorff, 1906, and Indoartemon Forcart, 1946. Three new species, P. unidentata sp. n. and P. megadentata sp. n. from northern and central Laos, a…nd I. diodonta sp. n. from central Laos, are described. All eight species of these three genera previously recorded from Laos are revised and discussed based on examined material from Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. Type material was examined and lectotypes are designated. Details of genital anatomy and radulae are provided, including the first detailed genitalia and radula descriptions from Haploptychius. Two novelties in Streptaxidae, a vaginal caecum, and the occurrence of aphallic individuals, are reported from H. pellucens (Pfeiffer, 1863). New taxa: Perrottetia unidentata n. sp., Perrottetia megadentata n. sp., Indoartemon diodonta n. sp. 31 pp., 10 figs, gr. 8.

Add to basketThis new full-colour guide gives a fully comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of the slug fauna of Britain and Ireland. Slugs have a notorious reputation as plant pests but many species have more varied ecological roles. The British and Irish slug fauna has changed rapidly over recent years as exotic species join our native wil…dlife. While researching for the book the authors set out to find all 36 known UK species, they were surprised to come across several they didn't recognise. Although slug species can vary enormously in appearance, and several are difficult to identify, further work, including DNA analysis, confirmed that they were distinct species. 136 pp., num. color figs, br. gr. 8 [17.3 x 24.5].
