Cond.: G. 1st Printing of the 1976 Sierra Club Books 1st Edition thus, with preface by Allen Steck and containing personal accounts and b/w photos contributed by renown mountaineers. Only indicator that this is not a trade purchase is stamp on front pastedoqwn "Purchase at U.S.P.S. Auction". Book is straight, square, securely bound (although bottom 4in of half title is loosening from the gutter), faintly and uniformly age toned and free of other markings and blemishes. Cover is mildly age toned / faded, but otherwise clean and bright, with crease at top corner of rear board, minor rubbing along the edges, head, tail, corners, joints and hinges, sharp corners and joints, straight headcap, tail, spine, hinges and edges, boldly legible lettering and crisply distinct design and image artwork. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. The book has an inscription in black ink and a former owner's address sticker on the front endpage, very gently bumped top edge of the spine, light smudging to the edge of the textblock, and slightly loose hinges, otherwise the book is in very good condition with crisp, unmarked pages, a tight binding, and attractive images throughout. The dustjacket has rubbing and surface scratching to both covers, mild fading to the spine, minor shelfwear to the edges and corners of the jacket most notable at the top edge, and very light toning to the flaps of the jacket, otherwise the dustjacket is in very good condition, intact and clean, and is now in an archival protective mylar.
