Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an electrical method for extracting water from oil, a process known as electrical dehydration. It begins by examining emulsions and the methods used to break them down, with special focus on electrical methods. The author, an expert in oil production, shares research detailing the development and testing of an electrical process for breaking down oil emulsions. They discovered that an insulating sheath around one electrode prevents electrical breakdown, eliminates fire hazard, requires no agitation, and is enclosed and compact for rugged and automatic operation. The auxiliary equipment, in districts not serviced by electric lines, consists of a storage battery and a spark coil rather than an expensive electrical generating unit. For an average point of collection producing 15 barrels of oil per day, the cost of equipment is much less than the cost of equipment used in previous processes. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the production of briquettes from Illinois coal without the use of binders. Conducted between 1930 - 1935, extensive laboratory testing of the impaction process showed promise of producing a solid mass from Illinois coal. Different results were obtained from impaction with two blows upon coal preheated in the die and coal preheated in an oven. The recommended conditions required 40 to 45 grams of coal and a specific impact force. The author concludes that the impact method was successful when the coal was heated in the die, less successful when the coal was preheated in an oven, but most consistently produced the most satisfactory briquettes when one blow was used upon preheated coal. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. A deep dive into the potential of a greener energy source, this book harnesses laboratory investigations to analyze methods of briquetting Illinois coals without a binder through compression and impact. The author provides a comprehensive overview of the process, situating it within a broader context of more sustainable energy practices. Critical variables are identified and examined under two primary methodologies. A range of conditions, types, and impacts are tested, with the results offering significant insights into the nature of briquetting. The author's in-depth analysis illuminates pathways to a more environmentally conscious future, making this book an invaluable resource for professionals in the energy sector and sustainability advocates alike. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the process of producing smokeless briquettes from Illinois coal without using a binder through the application of heat and impact. Despite the abundance of Illinois coal, approximately half of all sized coal produced in Illinois is slack coal, creating problems of marketing for many mines, particularly during certain seasons of the year. Creating a smokeless briquette would increase the marketability and value of this abundant resource and decrease smoke pollutionâ"a major concern for many cities in Illinois. While previous attempts at briquetting Illinois coal without a binder have been unsuccessful, the author discovered a new method of processing which removes smoke-producing constituents from the coal. This book provides a detailed exploration of the experimental process for creating these smokeless briquettes, including an examination of the relationship between the volatile matter of raw coals and their smokinessâ"a key factor in determining the appropriate processing techniques. An understanding of the coal briquetting process offered here will be of particular interest to those involved in coal production, environmental sciences, manufacturing, and engineering, and will contribute to the broader discussion of how to make the best use of the abundant yet problematic resource of Illinois coal. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
