Hume had at one time been Professor of the History of Religions at Union Theological Seminary. The author was trying his best for impartiality, but to my view, the book is weighted towards Christianity. It was a different world, and the mere act of trying to put forth at that time a complete comparative religions text was praiseworthy. Very interesting. TITLE : The World's Living Religions, an Historical Sketch, with Special Reference to their Sacred Scriptures and in Comparison with Christianity AUTHOR : Robert Ernest Hume. Ph.D. (1877 - 1948) IMPRINT : Charles Scribner's Sons PLACE : New York DATE : 1949 EDITION : Revised Edition, 29th Printing STATUS : Out of Print - OP DETAILS : Trade hardcover; approx. 4 1/4" x 6 1/2", green buckram cloth covered boards and spine, with gilt lettering on spine and front board; contains a Preface, an Appendix, which consists of a Bibliography and Questions for Review, and an Index. CONDITION -- BOOK : VERY GOOD PLUS --- JACKET : VERY GOOD PLUS -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and attractive, with the following particulars noted: EXTERIOR - Very slight compression to spine extremities, else clean, bright and attractive; text-block edges are clean. BINDING - What looks to be a slightly shaken text-block, upon examination, appears to be a slight binding slippage - ie a production effect. Binding is solid. INTERIOR - Clean and free of marking. DUST-JACKET -- Clean and free of signs of handling. As close to fine as one could hope to see for what is essentially a 75 year-old jacket there is slight rub to the spine panel extremities.
